Teacher's Tools : Become An "Extra Mile School"
Go the Extra Mile… for good health.
BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools honors schools that take extra steps for Tennessee’s youth by designating them as an “Extra Mile School.”
What are the requirements?
Schools must complete at least 600 total minutes per participating classroom (an average of approximately 50 minutes per week, or 10 minutes per day) during the semester.
Ninety percent of the K-5 classrooms in the school must participate at this level to be named an Extra Mile School. It is important that classroom teachers and/or the school’s BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools coordinator report how many minutes each participating class walked throughout the year in order to achieve this honor.
What does the honor include?
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee will award schools with an Extra Mile School banner to recognize their “above-and-beyond” participation in BlueCross WalkingWorks for Schools.
Schools earning the Extra Mile School honor will be added to an “Honor Roll” of schools posted on this Web site.
